Nose
Alcohol is soft, but feels a bit methylated at first nosing. After some time, only nice stuff keeps coming up. Oak, orange and raisin are the strongest components, but they are accompanied by a weaker almond, vanilla, coffee, marzipan, malt and sweet sherry. Lovely!
Palate
The palate also has a minor offset with some bitter oak present, but the lovely stuff rules.
A salty caramel and a lot of orange/citrus, cinnamon roll and sweet pipe tobacco. Mmm I love this part.
Finish
The medium finish is smooth with a thick teethcovering sweetness. A bitter coffee/choco and a nice vanilla orange cinnamon provide this one with everything a good desert needs.
But wat this drám really needs is a person who explains to Dalmore wiseguy Mr. Paterson that this 12Y would have been a lot better of with a significant raise in abv.
Conclusion
For now this is a nice 3,5/4 star dram. But Mr. Paterson you do have the key to make this one a real 4/4,5 star beauty.
I'm a bit anxious now to open my King Alexander which also has an abv of 40%.
Great asset of this one is it's beautiful bottle though.
I often see my kids staring at or touching the 12 point Royal Stag.
