Bunnahabhain 2003/2017 Pedro Ximenez Finish
Review by Bunnahabhain
- Nose
Toffee, sweet dried fruit, nuts and chocolate.
- Palate
Syrupy and smooth, mouth filling Pedro Ximénez influence, notes of sweet raisins and sultanas, honeyed nuts, rich toffee, and subtle creamy chocolate.
- Finish
Sweet dried fruit, long and lingering finish. Un-Chillfiltered Natural Colour
- Conclusion
The influence of Pedro Ximenez grapes, from refill sherry butts gives this malt a delightfully rich syrupy character. Scents of toffee, dried fruit and nuts prepare the palate for sweet raisins and honey and rich, creamy chocolate.
- Note
-
Our Bunnahabhain 2003 Pedro Ximénez, 14 years old, bottled at cask strength 54.3% vol, un-chillfiltered, is the follow up to our fabulous Oloroso Finish released in 2016.
The Bunnahabhain PX does not disappoint, with it's natural deep gold colour aided by the 3 year finishing in the 1st fill Pedro Ximénez butts. The result is an especially rich syrupy character in a single malt of singular distinction.
Is it coincidence we have released this beauty just before the big holiday season at the end of the year? With it's aromas of toffee, dried fruit on the palate, sweet raisins, sultanas and honeyed nuts it tastes like all our favourite holiday fruit cake without the marzipan!
