Lagavulin Lg1 - Elements of Islay
Review by Elements of Islay
- Nose
Cereal and smoke lead the nose – crushed barley, porridge oats and creamy cranachan mingle with damp peat and coal-fired stoves. A drop of water adds more sweetness and a rich flapjack character.
- Palate
Crisp, smoky and intense. Pepper and honey crash against the palate, but soften to reveal hints of tropical fruit and grapes before waves of smoke roll in.
- Finish
Very long, with peppery spice slowly fading.
- Note
-
Despite this being one of Islay’s most famous distilleries, there are very few independently bottled expressions. Rather than the official bottlings’ richer and elegant style, for the Lg range, we have focused on a younger and feistier mix of bourbon and sherry casks, starting with this punchy dram.
