Review by Octomore

Colour

Cinnamon

Nose

Smoked Jam, blackcurrant, cherry, almond. The smoke is earthy, coffee grounds, oak and vanilla all mixed and always there is fruity strawberry/blackcurranty jam.

Palate

Dark and complex on the palate, dark cherry, earthy smoke, bitter coffee. Ripe plums and pipe tobacco.

Finish

Spice comes through, earthy, peppery, smoke as ever comes through strong on the palate.

Note

Octomore 09.2 has followed the same path as its .1 counterpart until its final year. Distilled in 2012, this muscular liquid has spent four years maturing in ex-American oak casks before being recasked into the finest French oak. Carefully selected from the Bordeaux region, these casks coax the dry peat smoke into an expert combination with sweet fruit flavours.

This is going to be legendary in years to come. Adam Hannett

As with all great experiments, one variable must change. Octomore 09.2 has followed the same path as its 09.1 counterpart until its final year. Distilled just one week apart, this edition explores the influence of flavourful European oak.

Sweet fruit, cherry, plum and strawberry notes introduce an interesting dimension to this super-heavily peated spirit but it is perhaps the values of our fellow French artisans that peak our interest.

Curious. Sensitive. Attentive.

We draw parallels from the philosophies of those who have passed on their toasted barriques. Knowing that this wood has originally been sourced with care, filled with liquid that has been pain-stakingly crafted, gives us the confidence to commit our own precious liquid to its full command.
