Talisker 25 year old 2005 release
Review by Talisker
- Nose
Dry and restrained with, up-front, heathery-smoky hints of un-struck matches and behind this, the rich sweetness of sugared almonds and vanilla, treacle and molasses. Then come lighter maritime scents, of sweet seaweed and boat varnish. Water brings on the sweetness, now of macaroons and smoky chocolate, balancing this with briny sea breezes and a trace of heathery smoke.
- Palate
Hot and peppery at natural strength. Richly enjoyable when reduced with water, when the lightly smoky sweetness balances a long and warming effect overall. There's a steady flow of flavours which expand in the mouth into perfumed, heathery peat smoke and dried seaweed balanced by spicy, almost honeyed oak in a glowing, smooth passage down the throat.
- Finish
Charred smokiness, sweet gentle fruit and pepper. Complex and long, keeping its aromatic profile as it fades.
- Note
-
Amber gold in colour and medium to full bodied. Nectar. Slips down the throat with a fine golden glow. A warming, never fiery Talisker that strikes an unusually fine balance between sweet wood and powerful smoke.
