Geur:
Sherry, red apples, raisins and prunes, sweet orchard berries, blood oranges, toffee, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, a hint of dark roast coffee, very light woody notes
Smaak:
Sweet, punchy and spicy (ginger, pepper mix), blueberry jam, oranges, Christmas cake with all kinds of season spices, caramel, gentle dry oak
Afdronk:
Spicy, dry, sweet, berry marmalade, some nuttiness, dark chocolate and leathery notes, caramelized orange zest, soft oak at the end
Conclusie:
Pleasant blended malt, sherried and spiced and fits very well to winter season. Rather punchy and spicy with all kinds of peppers on the palate and I would personally prefer the milder version of this dram. This expression lacks complexity but on the opposite is well balanced and tasty. A good choice for Christmas time though

Geur:
Sweet, sherried (dark dried fruits: figs, prunes, cherries), heavy spices (cinnamon, cloves), caramel, old leather, old oak chest, a touch of wood polish, buckwheat honey, orange zest marmalade, gentle woody notes. Water opens up lighter fruity notes: red apples and ripe plums, toffee as well
Smaak:
Sweet, slightly spicy (rose pepper, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom), blackberry jam, cherry pie, oranges, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee notes, a hint of menthol, light oaky notes at the end
Afdronk:
Medium-long, sweet, nutty, orchard berries jam (strawberries, blueberries), tobacco and leathery notes, caramelized orange zest, coffee notes, soft oaky notes at the end
Conclusie:
Excellent whisky, very “winter” with tons of heavy spices and dark fruity notes. So it fits really perfectly to the Christmas season. Feels significantly older than it is and shows good complexity in addition. Balanced, full-bodied and simply very tasty - what else do we need to enjoy Christmas?

Elements of Islay

Geur:
Vibrant, fresh, gently smoky, fruity (figs, clementines, raisins and apricots), coastal feeling: light minerality, brine, kelp. Water opens up sweet caramelly notes, tropical fruitiness (lychees, bananas) and some tarry motives
Smaak:
Sweet, oily, spicy (mostly black pepper, cloves), liquorice, dark roast coffee, dried dark fruits (raisins, prunes), caramel, cold ashes, smoked herring, herbal notes at the end
Afdronk:
Long, juicy, with berries marmalade motives, cold wood ashes, disappearing smoke, sweet oranges, eucalyptus notes, soft oaky touch at the end
Conclusie:
Excellent whisky, sherry has done very good work here. Superbly balanced and very tasty, this expression shows the best peculiarities of Ardbeg. Being insanely priced, this spirit is really worth at least tasting.

Geur:
Mild smokiness, fruitiness (pineapples, pears, banana touch), some beeswax, vanilla, menthol, earthy and farmy notes, pine needles, propolis, lemon zest
Smaak:
Sweet, spicy (ginger and white pepper), very fruity (ripe pears, yellow plums), some tropical fruity notes (kumquat, banana), lemon dessert, light minerality (reminds Vichy water), brine, rubber and smoked ham, farmy notes
Afdronk:
Long, vivid, slightly sweet, tad spicy, mineral, fruity (mostly citruses), very light oaky notes at the end
Conclusie:
Excellent whisky, no more, no less. Superbly balanced and complex, with quite strong but mild smokiness. And this expression proves one more time the fact that even not very famous distilleries can produce great whiskies. I tried to find any flaw in this spirit but the only one I found is its price. However it doesn’t look high for this quality drink.

Geur:
Fresh and vibrant, quite sweet, meadow blossom honey, fruitiness (unripe bananas and apricots), a lot of vanilla, new leather notes, lemon peel, light oak on the background
Smaak:
Sweet, with quite vivid soft oak and typical oak spices (ginger and ground pepper mix), fruitiness (yellow apples, plums), nutmeg, lemon zest, light bitterness
Afdronk:
Medium-long, tad sweet, with light oaky bitterness, slightly malty and nutty, apple seeds
Conclusie:
Solid whisky, superbly balanced and flawless. Although the oak is rather highlighted here, it’s soft and beautifully integrated. Balvenie’s signature fruitiness is here too along with some complexity. Really nice expression but unfortunately without anything special

Geur:
Sweet, fruity (oranges, mangoes), a lot of vanilla, toffee, light minerality (wet limestone), a bit of wood polish, damp oak notes
Smaak:
Sweet and fresh, slightly spicy (ginger and pepper mix), fruity (peaches, sweet grapefruits, dried apricots), vanilla cake, light malty notes, a hint of menthol
Afdronk:
Quite long, slightly sweet, nutty, gently oaky, fruit caramel, coffee notes, light leathery feeling at the very end
Conclusie:
Very good whisky, perfectly composed and balanced. Light and fruity with a warm and pleasant aftertaste. In my opinion it serves best as a summer dram but this is quite individual of course. The downside of this expression is its price of course.

Geur:
Sweet, light, fruity and caramelly (pear and apricot acid drops), honey, sultanas and dried apricots, vanilla, lychees, sweet oranges
Smaak:
Sweet, gently spicy (rose peppers, a bit of ginger), vanilla pastry, quite strong but soft and gentle oak with a piquant bitterness, apricot jam, some herbs, orange zest, red overripe berries (raspberry, currants)
Afdronk:
Rather long, sweet and warming, with vivid nutty notes and soft oak. Berries jam, mild spiciness with some leathery notes at the end
Conclusie:
Nice whisky, very balanced, with beautifully integrated oak. Classic bourbon maturation, which was just “loaded” with sherry and because of that features dried yellow fruits. Proper ABV also gives a plus to overall impression. Well, now is time to talk about the bad side of this expression - its price. To be honest it’s a robbery. Over 500€ for things that you can get for 3-4 times cheaper from other distilleries… makes the purchase of this whisky highly non-recommended.

Geur:
Fruity, sweet, toffee, mild spices (cinnamon, vanilla), light earthy notes, pear mash, orange zest, sour gooseberries, a touch of oak, again vanilla on the background
Smaak:
Sweet, fruity (apricots and notes of banana), vanilla cheesecake, a touch of ginger, some freshly cut grass
Afdronk:
Medium-long, soft, sweet berries, milk chocolate, notes of fresh mushrooms, a touch of nutmeg, gentle oak at the end
Conclusie:
Very nice whisky, light and fruity, mostly missing rye’s typical spicy profile. Easy-going and tasty drink, what else do you need to keep it as a perfect daily dram? Oh, yes, just a trifle: the price.

Geur:
Smoky, ashy, fresh, green apples, lime juice, iodine, coastal motives (brine, wet stones), oaky notes on the background. Water releases vanilla and lemon zest notes.
Smaak:
Smoked fish, rubber, spices (pepper mix), light sweetness and saltiness, brine, vanilla pastry, lemon zest and light oaky bitterness with ashy notes
Afdronk:
Long, sweetish, sooty, slightly spicy and nutty, medicinal with leathery and woody notes at the end
Conclusie:
Pleasant whisky, typical bourbon-matured Laproaigh. Smoky, medicinal, vivid - all we like it for. Not very complex despite its age but still very well balanced. Requires some drops of water for better opening up. Limited and quite expensive expression.

Excellent whisky, full-bodied and very balanced. Sherry-bomb in its best incarnation. Oak is quite strong here but it’s very soft and well-integrated. A festive dram and proper representation of 20th anniversary of The Whisky Exchange.

Thick, sweet, with a lot of “heavy” spices (cloves, cardamon), cane sugar, caramel, dark berries and dried figs, wood polish, caramelized orange zest, notes of pickles
Smaak:
Sweet, spicy (peppers, cardamon, cinnamon), blackberry jam, oak, maple syrup
Afdronk:
Sweet, nutty, berry marmalade with baking spices, soft oak, leathery touch
Conclusie:
Decent bourbon, balanced (balance though a bit shifted to the oaky side) and full-bodied. This is quite expensive bottling (usual problem of That Boutique-y), which, however, definitely worth tasting

Quite closed, a bit sweet and fresh, earthy, light smoke, orange zest, some spices (vanilla and cinnamon), subtle oaky notes, caramel, buckwheat honey. Water opens up wonderful fruity aromas: pears, apples, some tropical fruits (pineapple), lemon juice.
Smaak:
Rather punchy neat, quite mineral and spicy, slightly sweet. Diluted: some oatmeal, syrup, grinded peppers and ginger with a touch of habanero, soft malty oak, light smoke on the background
Afdronk:
Medium-long, peppery, slightly sweet and nutty (walnuts), gently oaky and smoky at the end with a touch of tangerine and sweet malt

Nice Highland Park, brutal and rough but superbly balanced. Quite earthy and mineral but this minerality is very well integrated. Tasty but definitely not for everyone.
