Geur:
Fresh, sweet, fruity (overripe plums and pears, apricots, some tropical fruits, eg. pineapples), a hint of chalk, wood polish, vanilla, citruses, herbs, menthol notes, some wood
Smaak:
Sweet, quite spicy (mostly ginger), fruit bubble gum, red orchard berries, lemon curd dessert, eucalyptus, light minerality, bitter oak at the end
Afdronk:
Short, slightly sweet and fruity (peachy) with some herbal notes, a bit grassy, with a hint of oak
Conclusie:
Pleasant whiskey, balanced and tasty but it doesn’t make the “wow” impression, which you suppose to get seeing word “mizunara” on the label. I didn’t have any previous experience with mizunara finish/maturation but I hardly can see here something really unusual. Maybe the reason is that specific mizunara-induced profile requires long (15+ years) maturation, which is naturally impossible to get during even long finishing. But once more: this is a nice whiskey, which worth its every cent

Geur:
Fresh, smoky, young, slightly malty, honey, vanilla, pear caramel, lemon blossoms, some tropical fruits. Water opens up creamy and woody notes, a hint of rosemary
Smaak:
Sweet, slightly malty and spicy, tropical fruits (lychees, physalis), cold ashes, vanilla pie, lemon zest, noticeable oaky
Afdronk:
Quite long, sweet, somewhat nutty, ashy, with mushrooms notes, slightly oaky
Conclusie:
Nice whisky, feeling quite young but superbly balanced and tasty. Quite smoky but smoke doesn’t dominate and very good integrated in overall impression. Tropical fruits notes, citruses - all those signs of bourbon maturation are beautifully present here. Does this expression worth its price - over 200 euros? I think not, but enormous overpricing is a common problem of all Japanese single malts nowadays

Geur:
Sweet, winy, dark caramel, spices (cinnamon and cloves), dried fruits (prunes, cherries and dates), baked apples, juicy sweet oranges, green tea with milk, hints of smoke and oak. Water opens up grassy notes, honey and fruit caramel
Smaak:
Sweet, rather spicy (peppers and ginger), winter spicy cake, orange zest, red wine, roasted almonds, strawberry fudge, slightly astringent oak and sooty notes
Afdronk:
Quite long, smoky, slightly ashy, sweet, nutty, strawberry jam, some leathery notes, very gentle oak at the end
Conclusie:
Very nice malt, really (as for 10 yo) complex on the nose and balanced simple but very tasty palate. Wine influence can be recognized although those wine casks remind sherry maturation quite much. Sweetness hides smoky notes quite well but they appear mostly in aftertaste. The whisky is quite expensive as for 11 yo but I think it worth the price

Geur:
Shy, slightly sweet, cloudy apple juice, some fruits (apricots and oranges), pear caramel, cinnamon and nutmeg, eucalyptus notes. Also after a while in the glass some sulphury notes appear followed by oaky notes
Smaak:
Spicy (ginger, nutmeg), nutty, apple pie, orange zest, some caramel, oaky bitterness
Afdronk:
Short to medium-long, walnut shells, hint of malt, apple-pear jam, sweet and slightly oaky at the end
Conclusie:
I was disappointed by this dram, to be honest. No, it’s not bad at all but I expected much more from 30 yo whisky. The sherry profile can hardly be recognized and this expression rather reminds bourbon maturation. The palate is noticeably bitter, which I personally do not like. A regular 25 yo expression from Glenfarclas core line looks more complete and balanced and far more friendly priced in addition

Geur:
Sweet, somewhat sour (pickles), spicy (cloves, nutmeg), mineral notes (chalk), wood polish, some bitter herbal notes (cough medicine), orange zest. Water releases some honey and brown sugar notes.
Smaak:
Sweet, spicy (chili, white pepper), berry marmalade, dark caramel, burnt oak with some bitterness, caramelized citrus zest
Afdronk:
Medium-long, sweet, slightly oaky and astringent, dark berries jam with bitter herbs at the end
Conclusie:
Nice bourbon, quite complex and very well balanced. Very spicy even after diluting to ~43%, most likely due to virgin oak maturation. A good option for bourbon lovers, reasonably priced in addition.

Geur:
Fresh, sweet, white wine notes, vanilla, yellow apples, butterscotch, a hint of wet chalk, light malty motives, tangerine, very light background smoke and some woody notes
Smaak:
Medium-sweet, slightly spicy (ginger), tad minerally (wet stones, chalk), blackberry jam, apple pie, caramelized lemon zest, gentle smokiness and light oaky notes
Afdronk:
Medium-long, slightly sweet, slowly getting dry, with some berries jam notes (black currants?), light maltiness and a hint of smoke on the background
Conclusie:
Very nice Highland park - with all HP family traits but with quite unusual profile due to Rioja casks. The nose is clearly (but not too much) winy, palate is balanced and tasty. It’s supposed to be a successor of the Full Volume but I liked this expression even more despite one missing year. The price is not cheap but seems to be OK for a whisky of this quality.

Geur:
Smoky and sweet, fruity (pears, limes), roasted peanuts, blossom honey, minerally notes, light vanilla, hint of malt. Water opens industrial notes - motor oil, hot metal shavings, some plastic
Smaak:
Very spicy (chili), with strong minerality (limestone, mineral water, wet stones, a hint of salt), again industrial feeling with slightly chemical bitterness, with some fruitiness at the end (apple mash) and oaky tannins
Afdronk:
Rather long, ashy, minerally, oaky, getting sweet in a while and quite pleasant and sweet at the end
Conclusie:
Very unusual whisky, with rather non-common profile. Obviously ex-bourbon cask matured, this whisky is showing a lot of mineral and industrial notes, which I guess belong to the distillery profile. Being bitter enough it still has quite good overall balance and surprisingly pleasant finish. This was not quite my style dram but it was still very interesting and definitely worth tasting

Geur:
Light, floral and fruity (light strawberry and kiwi notes), candied lemon zest, fruit lollipops, vanilla, ripe pear, some malt notes, background dusty oak. More malty and yeast notes with water
Smaak:
Slightly sweet, spicy (ginger, white pepper), light minerality, sweet pastries, pear marmalade, vanilla muffins, caramelized lemon zest, woody notes at the end
Afdronk:
Medium-long, quite sweet, with orchard berries and raw almonds, slowly getting dry, ending with soft oaky tones
Conclusie:
Pleasant whisky, with all the typical signs of bourbon maturation - light, fruity and floral. Very good balance and some signs of complexity - excellent result as for 11 yo malt. Good summer dram but unfortunately available in 100 ml samples only.

Geur:
Slightly sweet and fresh, green apples, sherry notes (dried fruits, raisins), toffee, oranges, berries marmalade, hint of cinnamon, some solvent notes, very light oak on the background, almost insensible touch of smoke
Smaak:
Slightly sweet, a bit punchy and spicy (peppers, ginger), blackberry jam, candied orange zest, menthol, walnuts, light oaky bitterness
Afdronk:
Medium-long, nutty, herbal notes, light sweetness, soft oak at the end
Conclusie:
Decent whisky, with its strongest side on the nose. Nicely balanced but quite plain and straightforward. Dried fruits on the nose give a hint that sherry casks were used in the blend. With its price can be an excellent daily dram
