Nose
Fruity (apples, unripe bananas), tad buttery, some vegetable oil (refined corn oil?), malty, slightly dusty, dark caramel, a bit of sour dough, some herbal notes, light chalky minerality, bitterish oaky nuances. Water highlights oiliness and damp moss feeling.
Palate
Slightly sweet, punchy, with some hot peppers like chili, bready, malty, light minerality, oatmeal, eastery notes
Finish
Rather long, slightly astringent, horseradish, malt, bread, salty and mineral
Conclusion
Very nice single malt, quite complex and different from a typical profile. Although it’s just 8 yo, the youthfulness is totally absent here. The difference is clearly defined by a barley sort and this experiment (if we can call it that) is totally successful.
