Glen Ord 25 year old
Review by Glen Ord
- Nose
Some nose prickle, and a leading note of olive oil. Faint vegetable notes (traces of beeswax, eucalyptus, garden mint and honeysuckle) and a lightly smoky fragrance. Fruitiness develops in time: tomato, rhubarb, crystalline greengages? With water, a blast of acetone, then an electric smokiness (old model railways) before it settles down to become sweeter (burnt sugar) and fruitier (boiled sweets, acid drops), still with a trace of hair lacquer.
- Palate
Fresh, lively, appetising. Well balanced primary tastes - light sweetness (honey and lemon juice), some acidity, and dry spices (cinnamon, ginger). As it develops it becomes slightly fatty, like a roasting tin.
- Finish
Medium length; not complex, but crisp, smoky and dry.
- Note
-
Full of flavour, and very appetising indeed. Amber in appearance, textured with a good bead. Smooth, even chewy in body. An Ôall-day-long' malt.
