Glen Ord 28 year old
Review by Glen Ord
- Nose
Some nose prickle, behind which is a mellow fruitiness (lychees?). Very light. The slightest hint of smokiness. Crusty bread baking; brioches, perhaps. Water opens it up somewhat, developing fragrant and woody aromas, with a slight bookish mustiness.
- Palate
Firm. Assertive. Honeyed. Expressive. Spicy. Pleasant, sweet and slightly waxy to taste. Nice waxy viscosity when water is added, holds together well and retains its attractive aroma.
- Finish
Extraordinary explosion of sweet-and-sour flavours. Spicy. Vanilla. Flowery. Leafy. Lemon juice. A pleasant freshness and slight bitterness. Medium length.
- Note
-
A venerable, complex, yet delicate whisky. Amber in colour and medium to soft in body. Smoky-sweet with an explosive finish. Much more lively than any Glen Ord tasted before.
