Huge tablet/fudge like sweetness, buttery with a rumble of smoke behind. Banana skin and cedar. Very forward and ‘mature’ with light tatami notes underneath. Becomes herbal with touches of polish and with water a lift of light sulphur. Complex.
Assertive smoke then a sly undertow of velvety sweetness. Pools in the centre of the mouth. Some waxiness. With water it starts gently becoming bolder as it moves. Lots of hedgerow berries.
Back in 2000, the recently-launched Whisky Magazine held an event in Tokyo called Whisky Live. Now Whisky Live takes place from Toronto to Taipei, from Los Angeles to London and from Spa to Shanghai.
Whisky Live is, above all, about great whisky; to mark the 10th anniversary we were invited, as World Whisky of the Year, to bottle a single cask of Highland Park. Selected by the Whisky Magazine team and bottled exclusively for Whisky Live, this commemorative 10-year-old bottling is designed to celebrate the Whisky Live experience.
It is rather unusual for Highland Park to bottle a single cask; this natural colour cracker at 59.3% is limited to 600 bottles and has the tell-tale balance between sweet and peat that is associated with our single malt.
This whisky was sold at Whisky Live in Japan and the UK only.
