Review by Talisker

Nose

A rich nose with a mild nose-feel and good viscosity. Earthy, spicy, peppery. Brown sugar, oranges, orange peel; some Amontillado sherry and smoke behind. Bitter chocolate develops, then notes of sea-weed and Highland toffee. With water the charred aroma increases, and it generally becomes more maritime, while remaining rich.

Palate

Oily minerally. Peppery. Sweet, thick and rich, with a hint of salt and light smoke in the aftertaste. Trace of matchboxes. Warming aftermath, with chillis. Drinks very well straight. With water comes a voluptuous sweet viscosity that dries out gently, with pleasant acidity.

Finish

Tell-tale Talisker pepper in a long and clean finish. Earthy. Irony. Firm. Very big. Some fruitiness in the after-taste, and perhaps a trace of wax. Not as smoky as some examples of Talisker.

Note

A superb example of Talisker, with all the key characteristics, but richer. Very distinctive and extremely complex. Walnut in appearance and remarkably rich and chewy in body. "I poured myself another immediately".
