The BenRiach 17 year old Rioja Finish
Review by The BenRiach
- Colour
Full gold with distinctive amber traces.
- Nose
Dry and robust with wild flower characteristics. Sweet oak follows with elegant vanilla bean extract and ripe fermented grape juice.
- Palate
Subtle floral elements including, violets, rosehip and dandelion. Creamy oak notes, married with vanilla and nutmeg round off the mix partnered with ripe peaches and apricots.
- Note
-
Matured in the traditional style in American bourbon barrels, this whisky is then ‘finished’ in Rioja wine barrels, sourced from Northern Spain. During this second period of maturation the whisky derives many interesting characteristics specific to the Rioja wine barrels.
The Rioja Finish is part of the BenRiach Wood Finish series. Three new wood finishes have been released in 2010 and the other ‘finishes’ include Claret and Burgundy. All are available in over 20 export markets, and in the UK through specialist, independent whisky retailers.
